(Potassium mercaptoacetate) CAS# 34452-51-2, EC# 252-038-4
Thioglycolic Acid was developed in the early 1940sby Dr. Ralph Evans in Hoboken, New Jersey, as an active material for cold wave permanents. Today mainly TGA salts are used in cosmetics for hair perms, straighteners and depilatories.
Ammonium Thioglycolate or Monoethanolamine Thioglycolate are used in cosmetic applications for hair perms and straigtheners whereas Calcium Thioglycolate or Potassium Thioglycolate are used in depilatories.
Potassium Thioglycolate's unique reducing properties of the SH-group opens the sulfur bridges in the ceratine structure of the hair and weakens the hair structure in the hair fibres and in the hair roots. The best performance is reached in formulations with pH-values of 11 - 12.
As leading producer of Potassium Thioglycolate BRUNO BOCK and EVANS CHEMETICS are providing state of the art quality from their production facility in Marschacht, Germany (near Hamburg), and excellent customer service from their sales offices in Marschacht and Teaneck, New Jersey, in the USA.
Potassium Thioglycolate is produced by BRUNO BOCK in a high quality cosmetic grade with the lowest possible iron content and is used in depilatory formulations.
